Research Notes: The Witch’s Grimoire

“My studies began with the folklore surrounding a mysterious witch whose name appeared throughout scattered manuscripts, forgotten sketches, and incomplete accounts. While documenting her story, I discovered references to a mahjong set unlike any other, a collection with almost no surviving records but with symbols, illustrations, and hidden meanings that suggested it held far greater significance than a simple game.

After years of collecting the remaining sketches and studying every surviving detail, I recorded my findings in my diary and attempted to reconstruct the set myself. I hesitated for a long time, knowing the original creation came with a warning and that I could not understand the full extent of what it contained, but my curiosity proved stronger than my caution.

The Witch’s Grimoire Mahjong Set is my reconstruction of the artifact I found, preserved as closely as possible to the fragments left behind. Use it carefully, for some mysteries are uncovered for a reason.”

The archivists noted that the witch never played with loose pieces.

The tiles were always arranged carefully, held in place by wooden stands that became part of the ritual itself.

Each acrylic tile carries engraved details and carefully applied artwork, transforming traditional mahjong symbols into pieces of the witch’s collection.

This collection includes four handcrafted wooden scalloped racks designed to hold the grimoire tiles during play. Their shape and dark finish continue the same visual language found throughout the collection.

The racks, pushers, and storage case preserve the complete arrangement until the next gathering.
